Welcome to moving is living, the digital home of backsliding luddite Loren Bell: writer, photographer, and congenital nomad.

On a side jaunt to Japan some few years ago, I visited the well known snow-monkeys - a group of macaques who have adapted to the freezing winter conditions by frequenting hot springs. In the broken English translation, one sign read (and I paraphrase) 'the macaques must stay active to keep their body heat up or else they will die. For these monkeys, moving is living.'

Well, for this monkey too. Whether it be hiking to the top of a mountain, rafting down a canyon, or wandering through a rural village, my life has been an exercise in perpetual motion. When I am not moving (and often while I am) I am writing the stories I have learned along the way.

Within these pages are a few of those stories, and assorted bits and pieces. So kick your shoes off, turn the lights down, and settle in for a little journey.

As with so much of life and the internet, this page is continually evolving.
